Villa Rica Police were notified on 12-12-11 of a theft by deception. The victim met a man on a social networking site and revealed that she was looking to buy a used car for her mother. The suspect told the victim that he was a car broker and offered to purchase a car for her at an auction.

The victim met with the suspect in the Mirror Lake area and was presented with a contract. The victim then gave the suspect $600 to pay for the shipping expenses of the vehicle he was buying for her. The suspect and victim met several other times during which the victim gave the suspect an additional $5,400. The vehicle was never delivered.

Detective Eddie Thompson conducted the investigation and found that the suspect was using an alias name and that there were several outstanding warrants for the suspect in other jurisdictions. On 01-13-12 Detective Thompson obtained a felony warrant for theft for the suspect. Anyone with information on the location of the suspect is asked to contact Detective Thompson at (678) 840-1317 or the Douglas Co Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect is identified as Michael Riley and uses the alias of James Wilcox. He is a black male, 40 years old, and the last known address was in Lithonia Ga.

The Villa Rica Police Department is asking everyone to use caution when conducting business with persons they do not know. Many frauds are being committed with the use of social networking sites and other internet sites.
