GA Senator On Upcoming Legislative Session

"The big issue for the 2012 Georgia legislative session continues to be reductions in state spending and creating the best environment possible for job growth in the state” says Georgia District 30 Senator Bill Hamrick of Carrollton. “We’re also working on legislation that would allow us to evaluate the efficiency of state agencies and consolidate in agencies where is needed… and eliminate some agencies that are obsolete, inefficient,” Hamrick says the bill get that started, SB 223 is possibly one of the first to be voted on in the senate.

Hamrick-- an attorney, has for several years been working on legislation that he says will bring reform to juvenile justice. He says a bill could be passed early this session. “It should focus on the youngest offenders who, I truly believe, can be turned around… and be productive citizens,” says Hamrick. “We’re really putting a lot of effort into that. The House has shown an interest and started working on it and we hope to get the Governor involved.”

Hamrick was first elected to the Georgia Senate in 1999 and says he does plan to qualify again this year for re-election to another 2-year term.
