Villa Rica, GA -- “Butt-dialing” 911 gets a Villa Rica man in big trouble, after emergency operators over-hear a conversation about green vs. brown “weed.” When the Carroll County 911 center answered the afternoon phone call, no one was speaking to the dispatcher but the line was open and the dispatcher could hear an ongoing discussion.
Police were called to respond to the potential 911 emergency and traced the phone to a silver Mercedes on Dallas Highway. According to the 911 audio file, when the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect stated, “The only reason I can think of why you are pulling me over is because I’m a black man in a Mercedes.” The officer informed the suspect that he had apparently accidentally dialed 911 and was still connected to the service. The suspect, 48-year old Sandy Sheffield responded, “Oh.”
Sheffield then reportedly removed two bags of marijuana from his pocket and was placed under arrest.
