It was one year ago this week, most west Georgians kept locked up in their homes because of sleet and freezing rain, followed by arctic temperatures that turned much of the area into a skating rink. Our listening area saw anywhere between three and seven inches of snow.
“About a half inch or so of ice covered Carroll County,” says County Roads Superintendent Charles Pope. “We had a lot of problems throughout the county.” He says since that time, the county has purchased two salt-spreading trucks and 168 tons of road salt.
Carrollton city has their own road crews and Assistant City Manager, Tim Grizzard says road salt, sand and pea-gravel is stockpiled and a spreader truck is ready to go if needed. “We care a little more salt and a little more sand than we did at this time last year,” he says.
In Villa Rica, City Manager Larry Wood says the city expects to have a second vehicle ready for use by the end of this month… a stainless steel, “salty dog.”
