Coles Have Carroll County’s First Baby of the New Year

It’s traditional to bring noisemakers to a New Year’s Eve party. Christine Cole delivered her own.

She and her husband, J.J., were getting ready to go out to a New Year’s Eve party when she began experiencing cramps. The couple went to the W. Steve Worthy Maternity Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.

At midnight, as the ball and peach made their annual descent, Cole celebrated with an epidural. A few hours later, at 4:08 a.m., she delivered Patrick Tyler Cole, weighing 9 pounds, 6 ounces and 21 inches in length, and born with the distinction of being Carroll County’s first baby of 2012.

“I really wasn’t expecting to deliver, but I was ready,” Cole said. “I figured they’d just check me out, give me something for the cramps and we’d go home. But the doctor checked me out and said we were ready to have a baby.”

Frederick Martin, MD, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with West Georgia Obstetrics and Gynecology, oversaw the delivery.

The Coles, who reside in Carrollton, have another child, Gabrielle, 2.

The Maternity Center at Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica delivered Villa Rica’s first baby of the new year at 10:40 a.m. Kason DeShawn Horton was born to Jasmine Horton, of Carrollton, weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces and at 19 inches in length
