A Buchanan family involved in a scary head-on collision Friday afternoon on Highway 78, survive with only minor injuries and lacerations. Authorities expect to charge a Tallapoosa woman with driving too fast for conditions after a load she was hauling reportedly caused her lead vehicle to spin into oncoming traffic.
Public Information Officer, Wade Chaffin with the Cedartown Post of the Georgia State Patrol says a 2004 Dodge Ram was traveling westbound, towing a trailer loaded with a pick-up truck and 4-wheel all-terrain vehicle, when the wobbling trailer eventually jack-knifed and separated from the lead vehicle and left the roadway. In correcting, the Dodge Ram went onto the south shoulder, and then faced oncoming traffic and into the path of a Mercury Mountaineer.
Chaffin says the trailer being hauled did not have electric brakes and the driver of the Dodge truck was “just towing too much.” She was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital where at last report is in stable condition.
