Villa Rica -- Fifty-eight kids from Temple and 110 from Villa Rica benefited in the annual Shop With A Cop program yesterday. “The need for the program continues to grow as many of these children may not receive any Christmas gifts otherwise,” according to Temple Police Chief, Tim Shaw. “The numbers are an increase over last year,” he says. “This it what it is all about. We’re here for the kids. They’re happy today so we’re happy. No complaints here.”
Times are tough for many; this out-of-work mother of three is no exception. She says, “This event was awesome for us because this Christmas we were really struggling. I’ve been out of work with a new baby and my husband getting laid off. This is extremely humbling for us and we feel very blessed.”
School guidance counselors determine needy families for the Shop With A Cop Program. The program is entirely funded by local private donations that allowed in this case, for students and officers to go on a $100 shopping spree.
