Two men serving life sentences for a March 2005 double-murder in Haralson County are hoping to get new trials. They are first scheduled to appear before Tallapoosa Circuit Judge Michael Murphy in spring of 2012, where he will decide if at this time, there is just cause to continue with the appeals process.
Jimmy Wayne Wright of Tallapoosa pled guilty to the murders of James William Jackson and Tina Michelle McAdams three years ago. By accepting that plea deal, Wright avoided a possible death sentence. His defense team filed a motion to withdraw that plea in March of 2000. Should a new trial be granted, Jackson would again potentially face the death penalty.
The second man implicated in the murders was Larry Craig Cash. He was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in prison. Judge Murphy, at a motions status hearing in the Haralson County courtroom Thursday, gave Cash’s defense team until January 9th to file an amended motion for a new trial, citing issues with the initial documents filed.
Judge Murphy set a hearing date for March 9th, 2012 to determine whether there is just cause for the two men to be allowed to continue with the appeals process at this time.
