Organizers with the local Toys For Tots campaign say they need more time to collect the 18,000 toys to ensure that every local child in need gets three toys at Christmas this year. Carlis Baker with the regional campaign says the group is determined to get the 6,000 additional items in time for Christmas.
“Toys are coming in every day and we are sending them out everyday,” he says. “We are going to make it. One way or another. We may have to change our plans a little bit and not be completely done when we wanted to be, which is Saturday, but we’re going to make it by Christmas, either way.”
Toys for tots has more than 200 drop-off sites in Carroll and Haralson counties and those sites can be found on-line at www.toysfortots.org .
The Carroll County Animal Shelter is one of those drop-off spots. And, now through December 23, the shelter is offering dramatically reduced adoption fees on shelter animals for adopters who donate a new, unwrapped toy to the Toys For Tots drive. President of the Carroll County Humane Society, Teresa Leslie says “This way Christmas shoppers can help both needy children and homeless animals at the same time.”
