Back Lot Thieves Could Get Burned

Perhaps it just goes to show, especially in tougher economic times, that if you leave anything of value unattended, it is possible that someone will steal it. Villa Rica Police are investigating the theft of more than 100 gallons of used cooking oil from behind the Big Chic restaurant.

Captain Keith Shaddix says video surveillance shows two suspects get out of a large moving van marked Pacific Storage & Moving, then use a hose from the rear of the truck to siphon the oil from three 55-gallon drums. The store-owner reportedly changes the oil in his fryers every two or three days and then sells it for recycling at more than $1.50/ gallon. The used oil can be used as fuel in diesel engines. Shaddix estimates the stolen oil is worth approximately $300.

Anyone having information on the vehicle or suspects is asked to contact Detective Chris Bertera with the VRPD at (678) 840-1320.
