A Douglasville woman is charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving and failing to stop for a school bus that had activated its red lights and stop arm, after allegedly striking and killing a Douglas County student who stepped off a school bus and into the path of her car Tuesday. 51-year-old Shirley Barker McManners will remain in the Douglas County Jail until a later court date after no bond was set Thursday. District Attorney David McDade is quoted as saying the court is concerned with the mental status of the defendant, and as a result declined to set bond at this time.
17-year old Brandy Hart of Douglasville was fatally injured in the incident. Hart’s funeral is Saturday at noon at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
