Carroll County Schools officials say they are looking into allegations that on more than one occasion, a Bowdon Elementary School teacher verbally bullied an 11-year old student. It is claimed the student was mocked privately as well as in front of his classmates, because the young boy’s family openly recognizes paganism.
It is also alleged that on the same day of one of the in-school bullying incidents, the same student was singled out by his bus driver, because he was speaking Spanish with other bus riders. The boy was allegedly told that he could no longer ride the school bus if he continued to speak Spanish while on the bus.
County school officials have yet to comment specifically on the allegations and will neither confirm nor deny if there is any rule in place forbidding Spanish or non-English being spoken on a county school bus.
The official statement released by the system this week reads:
“We are currently working with the parent to review this matter. As always, our focus is on the safety and welfare of all students.”
