Election Night Wrap-Up



Some Carroll and Douglas county voters are not quite done with the 2011 elections as there will be a run-off election for the District 68 Georgia state House position. None of the six qualified candidates for that job collected more than 50% of the votes. With all precincts reporting except for provisional ballots, the unofficial totals show Dustin Hightower as the top vote getter, collecting 892 votes, or 41.8% of the total. Also on the run-off ballot Janaury 3rd, 2012 is Alan Martinez. He had 454 total votes Tuesday, or 21.3%. Other returns for district 68 include Thom Fitzpatrick with 328 votes or 14.9%; Tim Whetstone, 232 votes, 10.9%; James Camp, 162 votes, 7.6%; and Marc Lattanzio, 77 votes, 3.6%.

The run-off race for State Senate District 28 concludes with Mike Ccrane the victor. Crane collected close to 60% of the vote over candidate Duke Blackburn. Carroll county voters chose Crane by a count of 1107 votes to 680, or 58% to 39%.

Carroll County Elections Supervisor, Becky Deese says more than 6% of eligible voters in Carroll County voted on these positions.

In Haralson County, Benjamin Biggers will remain mayor of Buchanan as he wins that run-off election by only 5-votes against challenger Freida Williams. Biggers collected 71 of the 137 total votes.

Harvey Persons wins the run-off for Douglasville Mayor, defeating Rochelle Robinson Tuesday night. The unofficial total is Persons:1047 and Robinson:959.
