Services Today For 3-year Old Killed In Burning Home

The Carroll County Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office continue investigations into a Thanksgiving eve fire on Meadow Cliff Trail that claimed the life of a three-year old Carrollton boy and destroyed his family’s home. Funeral services for Hoshkay Lowell Shaffer are conducted today from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton.

Carroll County Fire Chief Tracy Smith says fighters with both the county and Carrollton City fought to put out the blaze and were able to locate the young boy in a second story room. He was rushed to Tanner Medical Center by the West Georgia Ambulance service before being pronounced dead.

Martin & Hightower Funeral Director Bryant Hightower says the funeral home is donating their services “but there are other costs associated.” He says a fund for financial donations is open through Martin & Hightower to cover those additional costs and that “any donations over the costs would go to the family.” He says, “They have lost pretty much everything they owned in their home.”
