Expanding City Limits Could Be Key Issue In 2012

Bowdon Mayor-Elect, Keith Crawford is urging city council members to establish some short and long term goals outside the already set agenda. Council members largely agree that expanding the city limits is an issue that has come to the forefront in recent years and may be the key to success for the city of Bowdon.
"There is a new report dated August of this year, prepared by the University of Georgia," Crawford tells Council on tuesday. "It show how one city in particular--Oakwood, just south of Gainesville... It looks like they did a tremendous job in selling the community in joining the city limits. And I think that would be the only way we would be successful (in expanding the limits)... is if we could entice people to want to come into the city."
Councilman Ray Garrett says expanding the city limits has been a goal of his for some time. "I've harped on it for eleven years," he says. "We have to expand. If we don't do it now Mt. Zion is going to annex us (chuckles)."
Council members agreed at Tuesday afternoon's called work session to jot down creative ideas over the holiday season, for this campaign and other initiatives.
