“Our founding fathers, in writing the Second Amendment, were explicit in that Americans had the right to keep and bear arms. The National Right-to Carry Act, which the U.S. House passed today with my support, serves to reinforce that right by allowing law-abiding citizens to legally carry a concealed firearm in any state that allows concealed carry. It is vitally important that Americans’ right to own and carry firearms is not restricted and as long as I have the privilege of serving in Congress I will support and protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights.”
Background:
· H.R. 822, The National Right-to-Carry Act of 2011, was introduced by U.S. Rep. Cliff (R-FL-6) on February 18, 2011.
· The bill provides a national standard for conceal and carry permits in order to allow non-residents of a state to carry a concealed handgun, as long as they possess a valid conceal and carry permit in another state.
· H.R. 822 does not impede upon the states’ right for determining their own conceal and carry laws, nor does it apply to states that do not permit concealed firearms.
· Rep. Graves is a co-sponsor of H.R. 822.
