Westmoreland on Reciprocity Act

The U.S. House Of Representatives could vote this week on the national right-to-carry reciprocity act that would require that lawfully issued carry permits be recognized from state to state while at the same time protecting states’ rights to determine the areas where carrying is prohibited. Georgia congressman Lynn Westmoreland says the right to bear arms should not just limit you to your state. “The new bill would not create any type of federal licensing or federal standard for a gun permit,” he says. “It basically, just says, that these states need to recognize others’ gun carrying permits just as they do a driver’s license.”

Westmoreland says the new bill does not interfere with states’ rights: “If the state says you can’t carry a weapon to a church or a restaurant or whatever, then you wouldn’t be able to do it while you were in that state.”

He says about twelve states currently recognize carry permits from other states.
