Georgia Power officials hope to have put and end to a disagreement with an area confederate heritage group and a pair of brothers owning property outside a Georgia Power facility this week-- after concluding that a disputed piece of property believed to be part of Plant Wansley in southern Carroll County, is actually owned by the descendents of a confederate soldier, believed to be buried in a hidden cemetery there.
An issue began a couple months back when members of the Haralson Invincibles, Sons Of Confederate Veteran's Camp #673 learned that confederate flags planted near eight graves of confederate soldiers on that piece of land had been removed. Haralson Invincibles members believe Georgia Power representatives removed the flags, an accusation not publicly denied by Georgia Power. Those flags have since been returned to the property owner.
However, the return of the flags and delivery of a certificate of limited title deed is not enough for at least one Haralson Invincibles Camp 673 member. Billy Bearden says he believes that crimes were committed on multiple occasions by Georgia Power… He says, “Georgia Power openly admitted this to media outlets. No apologies, no restitution, no arrests, and no guarantees it will not happen again.”
Georgia Power spokesman Mark Williams offered no response to Bearden’s assertions on Thursday.
