VRPD Continue Search For Suspect In 2 Year Old Murder Case



 Law Enforcement are still looking for a suspect involved in a murder in Ocean Springs MS. The suspect was involved in a theft at the Watering Hole in Villa Rica on 11/07/09. Authorities believe the suspect may be from the Atlanta area and are asking for help in identifying the suspect. The following is a press release from Ocean Springs Police Department.  On Thursday November 12, 2009 the Ocean Springs Police Dept. began an investigation into the death of Michael Surber. On Saturday November 14, 2010 the Jackson Co., Ms. Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy which revealed Mr. Surber was murdered. The investigation revealed that a white male who identified himself as “Jericho Cooper” was last to have been seen with the victim. The white male claimed to have been the owner of Jinx Atlanta recording studio in the Atlanta, Georgia area which was proven to have been false. The investigation further revealed that the suspect used an alias belonging to a black male in Atlanta Georgia who claimed to have been a victim of identity theft. The white male  was in Villa Rica, Georgia on November 07, 2009 (Saturday before the murder). Villa Rica is west of Atlanta near the Alabama state line. On Sunday November 15, 2009 the white male was seen in Shucker’s Oyster Bar located in Ridgeland, Ms. Interstate 20 runs through the Atlanta Metro area and through the Jackson, Ms area. It is unknown if the suspect targets the Interstate 20 corridor. The suspect is also known to frequent pool halls and bars and has a history of skipping out on bar tabs.

                The photos of the white male show him wearing a blue dress shirt and dark colored slacks. The photos were taken from the security cameras located inside of the billiards hall where the victim met the white male. Robbery is believed to have been the motive for the murder. The Ocean Springs Police Dept. has classified the individual as the primary suspect in the murder of Michael Surber. The television show America’s Most Wanted has listed the homicide on the website amw.com “keywords Michael Surber”.
