A former Villa Rica High-School principal is arrested Wednesday in Douglas county -- accused of having consensual sex with a 17-year old student while he was employed with the Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School. 52-year old Dennis Brown in his first year on the job in Lithia Springs, resigned from his position this week.
Major Tommie Wheeler with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says Brown’s offense falls under a newer Georgia law that makes it a felony for elementary or secondary educators to have any sexual contact with students of any age, who are in their care. Wheeler says the alleged incident occurred in Brown's truck in a park-and-ride lot near the school -- during school hours. Authorities say the investigation has just begun and they fear there may be additional victims.
Brown previously made local headlines in early 2010, when he began a dress-code campaign at Villa Rica High School as an effort he said, to improve public perception of the school.
He resigned as Villa Rica High principal in July of 2010, citing “personal reasons.”
Brown now faces up to 25 years in prison.
