On 11-01-11 at 3:45 PM, Corporal Tim McKinnon observed a driver cross the gore area on I-20 in order to enter an exit ramp at Hwy 61. Upon stopping the vehicle, Corporal McKinnon noticed the driver was extremely nervous and the officer believed he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Villa Rica Police K-9 “Nitro” was used to check the vehicle and confirmed the odor of drugs in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle officers found digital scales, sandwich bags, two partially smoked marijuana cigars, and (12) twelve plastic bags of marijuana.
The driver, identified as Brent Tyler Smith 19 years old from Atlanta Ga., was arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute. Smith later admitted to the officer that he had been selling drugs and blamed the current economy for his actions.
Captain Keith Shaddix said “We are very proud of the job that Corporal McKinnon and his partner “Nitro” are doing. The police department believes that this team will make many more arrests during their career as we continue to try and remove drugs from our city.”
