Villa Rica City Council has only the details of the plan left to work out… concerning the transfer of city water treatment operations in Villa Rica to management firm Woodard & Curran. City Manager, Larry Wood the city is conceptually moving forward with privatizing the water supply business and is leaving it up to the city’s attorney, CFO and himself to work out the details on the contract.
Details include deciding whether or not the city will participate in capital investment in the water plant at a cost of $500,000 to extend the life of the plant 20 years. Current plant employees will become employees of Woodard & Curran under a 1-year contract under the private company’s discretion once management is fully transferred.
Tuesday evening, council also approved a nearly $1 million project to redo the waste water treatment facility on the north end of the city. $300,000 will come from left over 2003 SPLOST money, and the rest will come from water and sewer reserve funds.
