Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon says his officers where involved in a chase Wednesday that began at8:08 a.m. in Waco on Highway 78 near Daniel Road and ended in Cleburne County, Alabama some forty five minutes later. The incident began when the owner of I and D Recycling on Highway 78 in Waco drove into his business only to find an man attempting to steal a 2004 Ford 650 wrecker belonging to the business. The roll off wrecker with an approximate value of $20,000 was not the only vehicle involved in the theft loaded on the roll off wrecker was a 1990's model Ford Winnstar Van that was slated to be recycled. The owner followed his wrecker as it was driven down Highway 78 and called the Haralson County Sheriff's Office. Deputies attempted to stop the driver identified as Sonny Foster Williams age 26 of 4930 Highway 78 West, Bremen near the intersection of Daniel Road and Highway 78. Williams fled leading deputies on a chase that reached speeds of approximately 70 miles per hour. Assisting the Haralson County SO were units of the Tallapoosa PD, the Heflin PD and the Cleburne County SO. Sheriff Eddie Mixon says a Tallapoosa patrol car was rammed by the wrecker in the chase. Sonny Williams was eventually stopped in Cleburne County and now faces a wide range of charges including: theft by taking motor vehicle- two counts, fleeing and attempting to elude, and numerous traffic citations.
