1 In, 2 Others Out For D68 Seat

An attorney with offices in Carrollton and Douglasville confirms this week that he does plan to qualify for the soon-to-be vacant District 68 Representative seat. This will be the first venture into politics for Carrollton resident Dusty Hightower. Hightower is a Central High School and University Of West Georgia graduate.

Tim Bearden is expected to step down from the District 68 position by the end of this month to accept Governor Nathan Deal’s appointment to head up the state public safety training center. District 68 qualifying and a special election date is expected to be announced by the Secretary Of State in the coming weeks.

Two other local officials reportedly encouraged by District 68 residents to qualify for the position—Carroll County Commissioner Kevin Jackson  and Carroll County Board Of Education member Sandra Morris—say they will likely not qualify, citing commitment to their current county positions.
