4 Life Sentences Plus, For Villa Rica Man

The District Attorney announces the conviction by guilty plea of Patrick Alonzo Taylor in Carroll County Superior Court.   The defendant received four Life sentences, two 30 year sentences, three 20 year sentences, and two 10 year sentences for crimes arising out of the kidnapping, rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, robbery, and attempted murder of a Villa Rica woman.

On the evening of June 7, 2010, Patrick Taylor abducted a woman in her car as she was stopped on an exit ramp off Interstate 20.  After a brief struggle, the defendant forced the victim to drive to a secluded area on South Wilson Road in Villa Rica where he dragged her out of the car and forced her to the ground.

Ignoring the woman’s pleas for her life, the defendant choked and beat the victim into unconsciousness before ripping off her clothes.   He then sexually assaulted her, robbed her of her wedding band, and attempted to kill her by snapping her neck.

After the assault, the defendant forced the victim into the passenger seat of her car and drove to another deserted area while holding her down by the hair.  When he stopped and got out, the woman escaped and ran down a street where a passerby stopped to assist and call 911.

Because of the outstanding job of Investigator Chris Bertera and other members of the superb investigative team at the Villa Rica Police Department, law enforcement developed a list of suspects who could have committed these crimes.   DNA evidence conclusively confirmed that Patrick Alonzo Taylor committed this brutal assault and led ultimately to his guilty plea in the middle of jury selection on October 24th.

The case was vigorously and professionally prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Anne Allen, who adamantly insisted the defendant spend the rest of his life behind bars.   At the sentencing hearing, Superior Court Judge John Simpson handed down the maximum sentence allowed by law for each offense.  Patrick Taylor must serve a minimum of 30 years before he can be considered for parole, but, in the light of the violent nature of his acts, is expected to spend the rest of his life in prison.
