Villa Rica City Council is asked to consider shutting down the Franklin Smith Water Plant… or, turn the plant’s operations over to an outside management firm and continue current operations… or, make planned capital improvements; as ideas to remedy the city’s water quality issues.
Councilman Verland Best says council needs to get a good understanding of where the problems originate and find a way to fix them. There is disagreement among city employees on whether issues are stemming from the 45 year old water plant or whether all the problems are created inside the city’s maligned pipes.
City Manager Larry Wood recommends that council votes to enter a contract with 32-year old privately held firm Woodard & Curran to operate the plant and make more than $530,000 in capital improvements.
Council will consider the Woodard & Curran proposal at the Tuesday, November 1st council meeting.
