We are proud to honor a very special man who has had a profound influence on many of our lives, Mr. Travis Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a 1974 graduate of Auburn University. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children, Travis, Jr. and Jessica, along with six grandchildren. Mr. Nelson taught Agri-Science for 37 years, with his last 30 years at Ranburne High School. Mr. Nelson spent countless hours investing in the lives of his students.
He taught the young men and women at Ranburne High School the importance of respect, work ethic, leadership, and responsibility both in the classroom and in the community. Travis Nelson enriched our community through involvement with our students while participating in showmanship of cattle, hogs, lambs, and various judging competitions. And, we shall never forget that Mr. Nelson taught us never to “ASSUME” anything.
In recognition of Mr. Nelson’s many years of public service and his tireless devotion to the students of Ranburne High School, Probate Judge Ryan Robertson along with the other members of the Cleburne County Commission has issued an official proclamation recognizing October 21, 2011, as “Travis Nelson Day” throughout all of Cleburne County.
In recognition of Travis Nelson’s numerous contributions to the community and his outstanding leadership and service to RHS, the Cleburne County Board of Education unanimously approved and resolved by that the Agri-Science building at Ranburne High School be henceforth named and designated as the Travis Nelson Agricultural Center.
We would also like to thank the many individuals who contributed to purchase the sign for the newly named Travis Nelson Agricultural Center.
