CC Brings Voter Machine Tuning In House

For the first time ever Carroll County Elections officials are programming the voting machines in house, a move that will not only save the county upwards of $10,000 an election but will give local officials full ownership of all elections moving forward.

In recent years, Elections Systems and Software, the company that produces the voting machines that are used locally, would fly someone out—sometimes from as far as Seattle—to set the machines up and ensure they ran smoothly on election day. For this service, the county paid around $10,000 a pop.

But that money will now be staying in Carroll County. Elections Supervisor Becky Deese said the move will both be a cost-saving measure and allow local officials to maintain ownership of the entire process.

“If we’re responsible for saying that it’s done, then we need to know how it’s done from start to finish,” she said.

Early voting for the Nov. 8 municipal election will continue during work hours through Nov. 4 at the Board of Elections office in Carrollton.
