3 Years After Issue Raised, Religous Headdress OK In Courtroom
The city of Douglasville is reportedly adopting a new screening policy allowing people who enter the courthouse wearing religious head covering, the option to be screened in a private area by an officer of the same gender. The policy also ensures that those wearing religious head covering will not be forced to remove it in public and may wear the covering inside the courtroom. The move comes following a secured settlement this week on behalf of a Muslim woman who was told she could not enter a municipal courtroom unless she removed her religious headgear back in December of 2008. She was jailed for contempt of court and forced to remove her headscarf when she protested.
