Vote Re: Future Of East By-Pass Delayed

Villa Rica city council decides to wait at least one-more month before voting on whether or not to cancel the eastern by-pass portion of the northern loop project. Villa Rica city officials say they are receiving conflicting reports from multiple sources regarding whether or not eliminating the eastern portion of the project would void the entire project. City officials and city attorney, David Mecklin anticipate bringing in the appropriate state officials to pin them down for a definitive, document able answer to their questions, before bringing the final information public and voting on the issue.

Eventual consideration over continuing or eliminating the eastern project will likely have only four-council members voting as council-member Woody Holland removed himself from the discussion, citing potential conflict-of-interest, as his family owns property in the discussed area.

Councilman Verland Best said Tuesday, if the elimination of the eastern by-pass does negate the entire project, he is likely to vote against canceling the east-side road adjustments. Best says the city needs the northern loop to deter traffic from downtown. “We have to make sure this specific plan goes through, if we can.”
