Carroll County ballots this November have an additional race to be added following Monday’s announcement that Georgia district 28 Senator Mitch Seabaugh is leaving his position to take over the role of Georgia’s Deputy State Treasurer. Seabaugh was re-elected to his district 2 years ago.
District 28 currently covers Coweta and Heard counties and portions of Carroll and Troup counties.
Qualifying for the newly open seat runs from next Tuesday through next Thursday in Atlanta. We asked Carroll County district-5 commissioner Kevin Jackson, who resides in district 28, if he would consider filling the senate seat. Jackson replies, “I’ve only just found out about the open position but it is something that I’m not ruling out.”
The change to Carroll County ballots, this late in the game, is likely to affect the early voting period, perhaps delaying the starting date. Carroll County Elections, Voter Registration Coordinator Janice Duff says her office will release the early voting dates as soon as a decision is made.
