Officially: Carroll County's Tanner Park
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources officially relinquishes Tanner State Park over to Carroll County this week. Tanner is the first to be transferred under a new state law allowing for the transfer of properties as a way to cope with the nearly 45% cut to DNR staff, reduced hours of some facilities, outsourcing of some processes and some closed sites. The new law also requires that Carroll County not sell the park to an individual or business. Carroll County has already been operating Tanner for 18 months and is expected to pay the state $76,000 to resolve an outstanding bond debt for construction at the park.
