A 2-vehicle accident on Georgia 100 in Carroll County early Thursday evening claims the life of two locals. 48-year old Maritza Mateo Rivera of Temple was killed when the driver of the pick up truck she was a passenger allegedly crossed over the center line and struck an approaching van head on. The 53-year old driver of that van, Peter Kassars III of Bremen was also fatally injured. Two other adult passengers in the van were also injured and taken to Tanner Medical in Carrollton.
Georgia State Patrol officials say charges are pending against the driver of the pick-up, 56-year old Edwin Francisco Rivera of Temple. He was treated at Higgins General in Bremen for his injuries. The accident remains under investigation by the GSP SCRT team.
