Carrollton Police Violent Crime Stats Differ From FBI Report

It turns out that Carrollton is not the violent crime hub suggested by statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigations earlier this week. FBI documents suggest that Carrollton is in the top ten Georgia cities as far as violent crime rates. Carrollton Police dispute that information and produced their own documents to back the claims Tuesday. Instead of the 318 violent crimes in 2010 as stated by the FBI, Carrolton actually only had 110 violent crimes within the city. Carrollton Police and city officials spent hours in contact with the bureau yesterday to correct the documented error. Officials speculate the skewed numbers to be the result of mis-labeling or a software error… and suspect that numbers for multiple Georgia cities are mis-represented.
