Ground-breaking for a new $11.6 million convention hall in Douglasville is scheduled for Thursday. The facility will have approximately 35,000-square-feet of exhibition space and will allow for the hosting of multiple conventions simultaneously. It is expected to attract business from nearby Paulding County and the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport area.
The city's current convention center, built in 2001, can only handle one group at a time due to limited exhibition space of about 10,000 square feet. That has reportedly forced county leaders to turn away business that would need the building the same day as a previously scheduled group.
