Armed Robbery & Armed Robbery Attempt In Carrollton

Carrollton Police and University of West Georgia Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies taking place on and near the UWG campus early Tuesday morning. Carrollton Police Captain Chris Dobbs says one suspect is in custody while authorities attempt to locate another.

Dobbs says the first victim was approached as he walked in front of the Campus Walk Apartments on Foster Street. “A black Chevrolet Tahoe pulls along side of him and the passenger rolls down the window,” he says. “First he asks him, “Hey, you got ten dollars?” Then he pulls a gun on him and says “Empty your pockets.”

About that same time, according to Dobbs, another car approaches the scene “and the Tahoe takes off.”

Approximately ½ hour later, in front of Downs Hall on the UWG campus, Dobbs says, “Another individual is walking… the Tahoe pulls up… same thing.”

Authorities were able to track the suspects to the area of a local retail store after they used one of the victim’s bank card. Dobbs says when authorities located the alleged vehicle involved, only one of the suspects was in it. So far, police have arrested 23-year old Michael Terez Simms of Villa Rica. Dobbs says Simms gave a name for the other suspect but authorities have yet to verify that information.
