City Schools On SPLOST

Carrollton -- Things are looking up for local schools and municipalities as SPLOST revenues are up for the most recent report. Carrollton City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kent Edwards reports the increase in his monthly superintendent report:

“There’s a great reliance on SPLOST revenues in order to continue being representative of the economy, so when we see that it’s actually an improvement over the previous year and month, that’s a positive sign for us in terms of paying off those bonds,” he says. “If there is a risk of not raising those types of funds then obviously there’s a challenge within the local budget and the local obligations, so we are above now what is required this month for us to stay on pace and retire those bonds.”

In Dr. Edwards report, SPLOST revenues are up $60,000 for the city school systems' share of the county-wide revenues. The city school system has managed to maintain its current millage rate throughout the current budget crisis which is ailing hundreds of local and state governments.
