Weekend 5K a Great Success

The first annual BE[POSITIVE] 5K Run/Walk was a great success, according to event organizers.

The road race, which was sponsored by the Carroll County Recreation Department, saw 84 people of all ages participate, and the weather couldn’t have been better. It was hot, as Georgia is wont to be in the summertime, but it wasn’t scorching, and everyone had a great time.

Thanks to both the race sponsors and participants, the 5K raised upwards of $4,000 for the American Red Cross and the newly-formed Carroll County Cross Country Team—money which will be spent for the latter group to allow team members to travel and run in races around the state.

Organizer Andrell Roberts, who is the coach of the cross country team, said that because of the great turnout, he anticipates making the race a yearly event.

“It was just great to see everybody out there having a great time,” he said. “And to help out those two great causes—it just doesn’t get any better than that.”
