Westmoreland Reacts to DOJ’s Suit Against AT&T Merger

Washington, DC -- WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the Obama Administration filed suit to block the AT&T and T-Mobile merger.  The merger is expected to lead to $8 billion in capital investment and create tens of thousands of new jobs in America.  After a series of discussions with the two companies, the Department of Justice decided to file a suit stopping the merger, claiming it would violate the country’s antitrust laws.  People on both sides of the aisle have come out in opposition to the lawsuit.  Below is Congressman Westmoreland’s statement.

“Once again, we are seeing over-the-top interference by the Obama Administration into private industry.  Their constant intrusion has stifled job creation and created an uncertainty that has led many companies to hold back from hiring new employees or expanding their business.

“At a time when our economy continues to suffer, the federal government should be working towards stabilizing the job market and reducing regulatory burdens.  Instead, the Obama Administration has filed suit against a merger that has promised to bring back 5,000 jobs from overseas call centers and could create as many as 96,000 new jobs.  This is no way to govern while our nation’s unemployment rate continues to hover around nine percent,” stated Westmoreland.
