Carrollton Police are working with police in Atlanta today searching for a person alleged to have kidnapped a woman outside the Carrollton Kroger early Tuesday morning. The suspect is alleged to have forced the victim to drive to Atlanta, where he is alleged to have sexually assaulted her.
The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Carrollton Police Captain Shannon Cantrell says the victim has told Atlanta investigators that the suspect pushed her toward her car at knifepoint. She was then told to drive toward Atlanta. The incident allegedly happened around 2:00am Tuesday.
"Her boyfriend said that she had went there around midnight to shop and that she later texted him and told him that she had been kidnapped at knife point from the parking lot. He said that he had exchanged texts with her but that he was afraid to call her because it might alert the suspect," Cantrell said. "He provided what he knew to officers and detectives and he also provided a possible location her phone was showing she was, which was around Monroe Drive in Atlanta. Later, Atlanta Police located the victim’s car and gave chase. At that point the suspect was able to get away."
Police are searching for the suspect in northeast Atlanta.
Cantrell says the victim is a Powder Springs woman and a University of West Georgia student.
The suspect has not yet been identified.
