Carrollton, GA – Though the West Georgia Wolves are brimming with optimism for the upcoming baseball season, opposing GSC coaches are not yet convinced. West Georgia was picked Tuesday to finish seventh in the annual preseason poll of league head coaches.
UWG earned one vote for fifth place in the annual balloting; five coaches chose them sixth, while the other tabbed the Wolves for seventh place. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Two West Georgia returnees are included on the 2012 Preseason Baseball Team. Second baseman Stuart Drew, a consensus All-America choice a year ago, is on the squad. A year ago, the senior from Douglas, Ga., batted .440 with 49 runs scored and 35 stolen bases.
Also selected was first baseman Andy Marinelli. A senior from Woodstock, Marinelli last year captured second team All-GSC honors while batting .379. He also led the team with eight home runs and 47 RBI.
The Wolves are currently underway with preseason practice for upcoming season. The 2012 campaign begins February 11 when Augusta State visits Cole Field for a double header.
