UWG student in stable condition after shooting near Tuscaloosa strip

University Of West Georgia officials say they are cooperating with police in Alabama as they work to determine the details of a shooting in Tuscaloosa this past weekend, involving a UWG student.

Multiple news outlets in Alabama have only identified the victim as a 19-year old University Of West Georgia student who was in town to watch the LSU/Alabama football game.

According to reports, the victim had been interacting with three men early Sunday morning, in an area called 'the strip,' near the University Of Alabama campus.

Witnesses told police they heard shots before seeing a white, four-door vehicle leaving the area. The victim was left with two gun-shot wounds to his face. As of Tuesday, his condition was upgraded from critical to stable; and he is expected to survive.

Police are still searching for the shooting suspects.

UWG Director Of Strategic Communications, Gary Leftwich told WLBB Radio Tuesday that school officials have been in contact with the victim's family and are hopeful for a full recovery.
