Temple Reveals What's In The Box
A couple of men with Carroll County’s Public Works and Roads crew chiseled around a marble cornerstone of Temple’s former Sewell Manufacturing plant on West Johnson Street Wednesday, to reveal several items stored away in 1953 for future generations to discover.
After the slabs were removed, Mayor Rick Ford revealed a deteriorated manila folder that was placed in the building at its original dedication ceremony 60 years ago. Inside the folder was a panorama of city leaders and workers taken when the building was finished, a 1953 clothing catalog and a balance sheet as of May 31st, 1953. The statement showed a balance of more than 4-million dollars.
Ford says the items are available for view at the current city hall.
The city now plans to build an administration building on the Sewell property and insert a new time capsule, containing items reflective of the current times.
