(Carrollton, Georgia—October 18, 2011) State Superintendent Dr. John Barge visited the 12 for Life program in Carroll County on October 18, 2011. The visit was an opportunity for Superintendent
Barge to see firsthand how the 12 for Life program is making a difference in the lives of Carroll County students. Dr. Barge learned how students gain valuable, hands-on experience of the
manufacturing process as they produce finished goods that are shipped to actual Southwire customers. Other components of the program were also introduced and explained, such as the
educational piece that allows students to attend classes in a traditional setting for part of the day and work a four-hour shift in the plant for the remainder. Other enhancements were discussed in
an effort to share the complete dream that 12 for Life provides to every student enrolled in the program.
Dr. Barge listened to students as they expressed the influence the program has had on their lives. He encouraged them to overcome the obstacles in their lives and to set goals that will help them to
stay on track for success.
