Second Flu--Related Death Confirmed In Carroll

A second flu-related death has been reported in Carroll County, District 4 Health Services Risk Communicator, Hayla Folden told us Tuesday.
Folden says District-4 has documented nine flu-related deaths since the flu season started in October. That includes four in Troup County, and one each in Henry, Coweta and Meriwether counties.
She says this year’s strain of flu continues to hit the young to middle age group of people the hardest.
Statewide, the flu death toll climbed to 31 last week. That’s up from 19 the previous week, and more than tripling the 10 deaths that were recorded in the entire flu season last winter.
Folden says flu season usually peaks near the end of January or early February, but the season can run into April.
She says flu shots are still available locally.
