STAR Students and Teachers Recognized at Chamber Membership Breakfast

STAR students and teachers throughout Carroll County were honored at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Membership Breakfast.  System winners are: (seated, l-r) Josh McLaughlin and his teacher Dr. Laura Rader, Carrollton High; Charlie Howard and his teacher Sarah Triplett, Villa Rica High School. CARROLLTON, GA – The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2017 STAR Student/Teacher Achievement Recognition awards program at the March membership breakfast held at Greenway Health. The local Chamber has co-hosted this program with the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) for more than 50 years recognizing the highest achieving high school seniors with the highest SAT scores, and the teacher each student chose as having the most influence in their academic development.
                During the STAR ceremony, students from the Carroll County School System, Carrollton City School System and Oak Mountain Academy were recognized.  The honorees, their teachers and parents, and school administrators heard from Carroll County School Superintendent Scott Cowart, Carrollton City Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus, and Oak Mountain Academy Head of School Paula Gillispie.
                Local high school STAR honorees from the Carroll County School System include Central High School student Sydney Blunschi and her teacher Susan Secord; Mt. Zion High School student Cameron Brown and his teacher James Maske; Temple High School student Annabelle Crulee and her teacher Jessica Bohlen; and Villa Rica High School student Charlie Howard and his teacher Sarah Triplett. 
                The Oak Mountain Academy honored STAR student Carley Robinson and her teacher Andy Denny.  Carrollton High School honorees are student Josh McLaughlin and his teacher Dr. Laura Rader.
                Two students and their teachers were chosen as System Winners to represent at the PAGE STAR Region One Recognition to be held at the Coosa Country Club in Rome at 6pm on Tuesday, March 14. Carrollton High senior Josh McLaughlin and teacher Dr. Laura Rader will represent Carrollton City Schools System; and Charlie Howard and teacher Sarah Triplett from Villa Rica High School will represent Carroll County.
