Recently Re-Elected, Askin Resigns From School Board

Officials with the Carroll County Schools District are reaching out to the state board of education for direction on replacing a local board member who resigned this week.
District 4 Representative Denise Askin— who is also an Assistant Bursar at the University of West Georgia— told WLBB Radio Thursday that she is stepping down from her BOE seat because she 'needs to dedicate more time to her career and personal growth. She said she is appreciative of the voters who have had confidence in her as their board rep.'
Askin was re-elected to serve another 4-years on the board this past May. The new term was set to begin in January.
Board chairman Jon Anderson says school officials will now decide whether someone will be appointed to replace Askin or if a special election will be called.
Carroll County Elections officials say there is not enough time to get a race for the district 4 seat on November ballots. Early voting begins in two weeks.
