The Carrollton City School Board approved the purchase of new turf for Trojan Field during Thursday’s work session.
The current surface was installed about 5 years ago and according to Superintendent Kent Edwards, began to show wear during year three. Assistant Superintendent Mike Sanders says the field was not unsafe but would soon become unplayable.
The current warranty with three years remaining could replace the existing field-- but with the same product with the same potential for break down; so the board opted for a new higher-quality turf along with a new 8-year warranty.
The purchase price is $175,000, which Edwards suggested could come from different sources, including the schools fund, athletics fund and boosters.
Trojan Field is used for football, soccer, physical education classes, Carrollton Parks and Recreation programs and track. It will also be used for the future lacrosse program.
