New Surgical Ward for Carroll County's Animal Shelter

Carrol County Ga -- Carroll County's Animal Shelter could soon establish a new in house surgical ward for shelter animals.

Officials say the move would reduce neutering costs making adoption fees more reasonable.

Shelter manager Lisa Barrett says, "We're hoping that this will increase our adoption by 600 a year. We're wanting to become a certified, recognized no kill shelter by 2018. The state of Georgia is slated to become a no kill state by 2025."

Shelter officials plan to establish the ward in honor of  Maureen Jenks, who passed away in 2011. Jenks had left a portion of her estate at that time to the Carroll County Animal Shelter.
