Jail Inmate's Death Ruled Accidental

Carrol County Ga -- The death of a Carroll County jail inmate this past March has been ruled accidental and information relating to the death will not be presented to a grand jury.

On March 18th, 34-year-old Clifford Mintor of Bowdon was discovered unresponsive in his cell by Carroll County deputies. He was taken to Tanner Medical Center where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.

Mintor was arrested the previous day after he had allegedly fired a shotgun in the direction of his wife.

Mintor allegedly made numerous threats against officers as he was being transported to the Carroll County Jail.

In reviewing the incident, the medical examiner said, "The cause of death was determined to be due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease complicated by methamphetamine use."

In defense of his alleged actions against his wife, Minter's father told WLBB Radio that his son had been dealing with mental issues for years, possibly brought on by prescription medication to cope with a back problem beginning a decade ago.

He said his son was "in desperate need of medical help."
